I've been googleing this for a while, but my friend and I have this argument; he says that 1080p with component cables doesn't work, and I told them you can output 1080p through component cables.

I found a post on a forum somewhere after using Google from someone that wants to output their Xbox at 1080p, and someone posted that you can't do 1080p over component because component is analog, and 1080p is digital. So, I was wondering on what the verdict on this was.

-Thanks

some tv's will do 1080p through component while others will not. It all depends on the tv you have. My 57" toshiba 1080p model cannot do 1080p through component but like i said, it all just depends.

What he said. Some tvs support 1080p over component. Some do not. Most tvs don't do 1080p at all.

1080p, 1080i, 720p, etc are all standards that are independent of the physical media they are transported accross. Could be via a vga cable, dvi, hdmi, component, etc. Hell you could send them accross firewire(don't know if it has the bandwith for 1080p without some big compression though)

The component inputs are physically capable of 1080p but the fact that component is not HDCP compliant forces most makers to disable the feature. For example, I have an Oppo upconverting dvd player that is supposed to only pass 720p/1080i through the DVI connection but I use a hacked firmware to allow upconversion over component. I doubt you will find any tv made in the last couple of years that will allow 1080p over component..

1080p is absolutely possible over component. Like the others said, it's more of a question of whether your source and display support it.

I have my 360 outputting 1080p over component to my Samsung 4695 LCD. And yes, there still are new HDTVs that support 1080p over component.
