Please, for the love of god, settle it!

I know the paper specs, but I want somebody to bench both of these cards! And don't do it with an FX-60 or anything, because if you have a CPU like that, you can afford a better GPU :p

I would honestly just like to see it! Help me here [H]!

Yea i wanna know this very badly because im getting a vid card soon and yea...

No question.... the 7600 has SM3.0 and better which is much less than can be said about the X850.

This is the exact type of thing I was waiting for... I'm getting my Sapphire x800gto^2 tomorrow, if you want me to overclock it to only x850xt speeds, I'll do so, and bench it for you guys. Sadly I don't have a 7600gt to bench, though.

See, I don't give a SHIT about paper specs.

Does ANYONE remember 6600gt and 9800pro? Well, yeah.

I want some [H] Benchmarks. I was leaning towards the "green", but now I'm back up in the air!

Somebody, get us some benches! I'm not the only one!

What's with this SM 3.0 stuff that people use in this argument? Let's see a side by side comparison of Oblivion running in 3.0 and 2.0b. Then we can see if it makes a big difference. But even the nVidia fan boys must agree that the X850XT has absolute raw power over the 7600GT.

The 6600GT beat the 9800 Pro on paper.

Except for memory bandwidth.

I'm downloading 3D Mark 05...will be finished in 10 mins.

LOL I cant even see a point to this thread, the x850 barely got better results than a 6800, and the 7600 is better than that def.

Not according the the (seperate) benches that I've seen......

Can we have some links? Because the X850XT was proven better than the 6800 Ultra again and again.

I would rather get a x850 xt over a cheap budget card anyday.
See, you guys are jumping to conclusions. Wait for the REAL benches first.

The x850xt wasHigh-end a gen or two ago.
the 7600GT is mid-New gen.

Whoever does the videocard reviews here, give us some help!

I dont care about the paper either.. because the 7600 is in a COMPLETELY different ballpark.

do you not understand that the 7600gt is a BUDGET card?
do you not understand that the 850xt was the flagship agp card a month ago? and still beats the shit out of the 7800gs for king of agp in almost every benchmark?

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=59&card2=385

Lets just take a look at the raw data..

Memory Bandwidth:
x850 - 34.56 GB/sec
7600 - 22.4 GB/sec

Pipes:
x850 -
Fragment Pipelines: 16
Vertex Pipelines: 6

7600 -
Fragment Pipelines: 12
Vertex Pipelines: 5

I mean honestly.. they are not even close... at all.
A good comparison is a 9600xt and 9800xt... you are trying to argue that a 9600xt is more powerful.. sigh.

wow.. you really have no clue what you are talking about huh?

will the 7600gt be available in an agp version?
Theres a weaker agp bus version called the 7600gs.. its a little more powerful than a stock 6800gs.

How about a 850pro? I'm thinking about doing my last final upgrade to my AGP system before moving on and I'm stuck between:

7600GT - $150
x850PRO - $170

@mrbay: How does that x800gto compare? It seems in the same price range.

I'm sorry! :(
Hehe...it's all in good fun :D
My X850XT scored 5892 in 3D Mark 05, for those interested.

Not that I really care, but I've been usinga 7600GT while my 7900GT comes, so here's some scores compartively:

3DMark05 Score: 6555
Date: 2006-03-22
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 2900 MHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
N/A / N/A
OS: Microsoft Windows XP
Res: 1024x768@32 bit

3DMark06 Score: 3604
Date: 2006-03-22
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 2902 MHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

A word of caution, a 7600 GT will equal the 7800 GS's performance level up till at least 1600x1200 4XAA/8XAF, the memory bandwidth advanatge doesn't come into play till you get past this resolution, where then both cards don't provide a playable experience.

I would say from an absolute performance perspective, the 7600 GT should be only a tad behind X850 XT, in absolute performance. Though it might fall behind a bit more when you get beyond 16x12 4XAA/8XAF.

Though keep in mind other factors:

1. The X850 XT will draw more wattage the 7600 GT, 45W vs 68W

2. The X850 XT doesn't have Transparency AA, OpenEXR FP16 HDR with Blending and Filtering, PureVideo techonlogy, and Shader Model 3.0. While you could argue the performance level may not be enough to run with these features enabled, at LEAST in this case you have the option of deciding for yourself versus not at all on the X850 XT.

3. The 7600 GT being a Nvidia card has the advantage of coming in Factory Overclocked Editions, as well as coming with a Lifetime Warranty.

I personally would choose the 7600 GT as I like Lifetime Warranty and Factory Overclock goodness.

ROFLMFAOBBQSTICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111111

As far as I understand, SM3 games running on SM3 hardware provide better visual quality. And 99% of the pro ATI arguments for high-end ATI cards all claim: ATI has better visual quality, the only real reason to buy an ATI over Nvidia. So now that ATI has less visual quality, it doesn't even matter anymore?!?! HA... sad!

So I guess it's pretty much settled then.

The ATi Radeon X850 XT is an older, slightly faster card, and will pump out a slightly higher frame rate then the 7600GT. But its power draw is higher and requires a 2 slot cooling solution. Older shaders/technologies and things. Costs $10-$20 less than the GT, if you shop around.

The nVidia 7600GT is a new low-to-mid range card. Single slow, lower power draw, but slightly lower performance. It has a lifetime warranty and will not be voided by aftermarket coolers however. The card also carries a higher feature set, though using the features may cause frames to be less than stellar. Costs more than the XT

I guess it really depends on your needs. Mine favor the XT, though. Thanks for all the help guys. :)

I REALLY hope one of the Video card guys here.......*COUGH* *COUGH* will help us out a bit with some benchies :)

Boo for factory overclocks, I'd rather overclock it myself and not pay the extra 20 - 30$. AND the factory overclocks barely have any headrooms to go further.

I found 7600gt agp on ebay for about 150usd but from old sales the x850xt are 250usd+

If they are so close that people can argue back and forth then I'd rather buy the 7600gt... unless someone know of a place I can get x850xt for 150usd ?

x850xt is gonna be faster all around. It's just got more of everything...more memory bandwidth, more pixel pipes (not only does the 7600gt only have 12 pipes but it's only got 8 ROP's), more vertex shaders. And the core clocks are very close.

I currently run an x850xt and the thing is wonderful...it spanks a 6800 ultra around. If anyone has any particular benchmark requests then I'll run them and post the scores...but someone else with a 7600gt is gonna have to pitch in too. Let me know what you want me to run. :)

The issue of SM3.0 is debatable but ultimately it's not worth much...there's not much at all that it can do that sm2.0a can't do. Even HDR is done well on sm2.0a now in a handful of games (source engine, splinter cell: chaos theory). I personally don't see any differences between sm2.0 and sm3.0 paths in games (comparing my old 6800 Ultras to my x850xt). Now I'm certainly a proponent of new technology and I think SM3.0 is neat, but I don't think it's fair to dock the x850 for not having it since it makes no perceivable difference. BTW HDR is NOT a sm3.0 feature...there are plenty of sm3.0 cards that cannot do fp16 blending and cannot do this type of HDR. (geforce 6200 and 6600 families, to name a few). it is a separate feature entirely. Likewise, HDR can also be done using pixel shaders which runs on any dx9 card, such as how valve implemented it.

BTW system is in sig

You can easily find cheap x800gto^2s and x850xts on Newegg for cheap, around $130-$160. If you're going to be that price wary, then look at the refurbished section. All the cards are dirt cheap, even though they don't come with all the uneccessary things that stay in the box and gather dust.

OK then...what's the "etc"?
Exactly.

Posts by f.a.n.b.o.y.s. like him are what ruins these threads :(

All I wanna do is know which card's better in an actual gaming experience.
