I'm running vista and i like the aero theme. i use a lot of 3d applications and one in particular, maya, has some issues when the aero theme is running. if i set the theme to vista basic, the problems disappear. is there a way to have aero turn off during the usage of a specific application?

right click the shortcut, select "properties", and go to the "compatibility" tab. There's an option in there to drop back to Vista basic on a per-app basis

i tried that...didnt' seem to work. i tried all the settings there...i think one is called Disable Visual Themes, but that didnt' seem to do a thing

The option you want is "disable desktop composition." 3ds max has the same problem, but most later revisions automatically trigger a reversion to Aero Basic.

weird...it works for other applications, but for some reason with maya, that setting doesn't do anything at all! odd
