Setting up RAID - Adding new HDD

Hey all,

I currently have two WD 400GB HDDs that I want to put into RAID 0, but because I know it increases the probability of failure I'm also planning on adding a third 1TB HDD to store backups made with Acronis True Image 2010. The two 400GB HDDs have data on them (total is less than 400GB) right now, so here's my plan:

1) Copy all the data I currently have onto one 400GB HDD.
2) Clone that drive onto the 1TB HDD with Acronis.
3) Set the 400GB HDDs into RAID 0, set the 1TB to the boot HDD in BIOS.
4) Boot into Windows on the 1TB, then clone back to the now RAID 0 400GBs.
5) Switch the boot drive back to the RAID 0 400GBs
6) Clean out the 1TB and start making scheduled backups from the RAID 0 400GBs onto the 1TB.

Will this work? In my mind it would, but my primary concern is the differences in size between the drives. I'm also worried about Windows 7 being installed without RAID and being switched to being on RAID. Are either of these going to be a problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
