So I finally recieved everything from newegg and all of the other places I ordered my parts from... except the case... I'm really itching to get my machine up and running and I was wondering...

Is it safe to mount up my computer like on a cardboard box or something? Maybe putting some antistatic bag between the mobo and the cardboard? Any ideas?

The antistatic bag wont do anything to protect your rig. I and several of my friends have done the lay on the desk method for years. A couple things to look out for though are the obvious.........cats, they are curious as hell and stick their nose where they dont belong (usually in open fans). And little cousins, sisters, but most importantly little brothers because their the ones that are going to really piss you off in this situation :p

You can build it on a table with the motherboard on a couple of computer mags to raise it up.
Take your shoes off so you have less isolation from the floor (less static build up), wear cotton and touch the PSU each time you go near the PC.

Without the case to provide a solid earth surrounding the PC, the fragile components become primary targets for static.
Other than that, it will work fine out of its case :)

awsome! thanks guys! *runs off into the distance to build his computer*
