So I have an Intel 2500k w/ 6990 and 6970 in tri-fire. I've got three 24" ASUS LCDs connected to the 6990 and 6970 via DVI. However I can only get the middle display to show anything. The other two displays are blank.

How do you enable this shit? :mad:

DVI - 6990
DVI + DVI - 6970

Don't tell me I have to use the display ports to get this shit to work.
 
All displays must be plugged into one card, grasshopper. I'll refrain from telling you that you need to use display ports to get it to work....but that doesn't change the fact that...

So I guess I have to get display port to HDMI and they need to be active DP to HDMI correct? Therefore I need either..

6990
DP --> HDMI > HDMI
DP --> HDMI > DDMI
DVI > DVI

OR
6970
DVI > DVI
DVI > DVI
DP --> HDMI > HDMI
 
I need two of these if I want the 6990 to be the primary card or one of them if I want the 6970 to be the primary card?

Well apparently that adapter up there wont work either since the ports on the card are mini display ports.

You only need the single-link active adapters since none of your monitors are over 1080p. Those are about $30 each.

If your GPUs came with appropiate adapters, you shouldn't need to buy anything extra.

I have two 7970s currently, but I had just what you have now.

You should be able to use two miniDP>DVI and one miniDP to DP, unless your monitors don't have DP natively? Did I miss that somewhere?

Should work fine, if you pick up three and connect them to the 6990 you won't experience any tearing. Drivers may have fixed that though.

The 6970 didn't come with any, it was bought new. I looked in the box, nothing was found.
The 6990 was bought used, didn't come with anything either.

The 6970 might have come with an adapter, maybe more than one, however I looked in the box it was packaged in and didn't find anything. The owner of said 6970 doesn't know much more than that. Maybe he misplaced them, maybe he lost them, I have no idea.

None of this is mine. Just helping a friend get his triple display gaming rig setup. :eek:

He ordered an active mini display to DVI (maybe HDMI) adapter from Newegg. He's going to use the 6970 as his primary card and hook all three monitors to it. Two monitors via dvi and the third via dvi --> mini display port (might be hdmi --> mini display port)

I can't remember exactly what adapter he got. It was either HDMI or DVI.

If you still have the boxes, look underneath where the main card was packaged, sapphire and MSI both put stuff underneath in a bottom compartment.

If it was an XFX they are pretty cheap, so I could understand there being no connectors.:D

I basically took the boxes apart haha

They are both XFX :p
 
The 6000-series mostly didn't come with adapters. But you will need to use that active adapter, as they only have two TDMS controllers which are required by DVI/HDMI signalling.

As far as I know, only the GTX600s have three TDMS controllers, which I've verified myself by attaching two DVI (one 2560x1600) and one HDMI to my GTX670.

I had three MSI 6950s (that I flashed to 6970s) and an MSI 6990 (mind you all these were reference models) and they ALL came with the boxes chuck full of adapters.

Each of my 6950s had passive AND active DP>DVI and a DP>HDMI, the 6990 had the same except they were the miniDP variety, plus a miniDP>DP.
I recall seeing XFX models that had no adapters though, which I think is criminal being that EyeFinity requires them. cheap bastards.
 
Perhaps try giving XFX a call? I needed some DP to mini DP dongles and then sent me two for free.
 
I didn't get DP-anything with Powercolor and XFX HD6950s. Not that I needed any, very few shouldn't.
