Setting up a data switch

Im thinking of getting a data switch but im not exactly sure how i would set it up or if i need other things. Can someone draw me a simple diagram in paint on how it would look?

What exactly do you mean by data switch. Some people refer to KVM's, printer switches, hubs/switches, etc all as data switches.

well to be able to have a few computers on one monitor.

OK so that's a KVM switch. No drawing really needed, basically you have the KVM switch, your keyboard, monitor and mouse plug directly into it, and then you have a keyboard, video and mouse cable set that run from each PC to the KVM.

so i would need a double ended mouse keyboard and monitor cable for every PC.
