I can't seem to get the darn thing working. When I try to boot with the HD connected the system freezes after it goes through the ide scan. If I leave the HD unconnected when I boot up then windows says that it can't detect a HD.

Any suggestions?

Yes - you need to go into your BIOS and update the boot sequence.

Are you installing an OS on this HD? If so, make your CD rom the first boot device and disable HD0, HD1, Floppy ETC. If you have a choice to boot by SATA RAID enable that or more likely - you have to enable the "boot other devices" option.

Once you start installing XP, hit F6 to load other drivers. You'll need a floppy with the SATA drivers for the controller you have.

What mobo are you using?
