MMK this server will be used for inventory at an auto salvage yard. There will be other computers accessing this computer for inventory lists and such stuff. Im not exactly sure how high demanding software this is for just accessing inventory #s. The price range is around $1000+/- . Like i said nohing super duper extreemly lightning fast because it is only for inventory. Would somone or somones like to help me piece together a server or help me find one online. THANX a bunch

funny you should be doing something like this, as I just finished building a small file server for a client and it was under a grand. They only have about 5 people accessing it, and it is just for a central location for Outlook PST files to be stored. Ok here is what I got in it. Foxconn 915 mobo with the IC6HR, 3ghz LGA775 P4, 1gb DDR400, 2 36gb SATA WD Raptors in RAID 1, floppy, cd-rom, case, and a cheap pos PCI vid card since its basically only going to be for setup and maintaining it. Depending on how many peolpe are going to be accessing at any given time thats not bad for smaller sized companies.

was it just one computer? im thinking that we don't even need an expensive server at all just a low level p4 with 3 or 4 clients. not that it will be doing ALOT of work...

yea it was just one PC. all the clinet PC's are already in place. Its fast too with the Raptors. I would totally say what I built would be just fine for what you want to do.
