So my room mates and I just got Minecraft to fool around in. We managed to setup a server on one computer. 8GB RAM and not sure on his CPU.
I have 16GB RAM and X4 955 BE to 3.8GHz.
We have Comcast internet. We don't see anybody outside of our apartment using the server, maybe in the future a couple.

Is it worth switching to my PC? Will all that i see change is increase in CPU and RAM usage? I know it recommends 4GB.
There is minor lag spikes every minute or so, just some slight shuddering.

Sorry if wrong section, please move if so.

Once your server starts getting more people and the map data starts getting bigger, then more RAM will be nice to have.

My summer roommate's server has map data of over a gig atm and ~5-10 people active on average, over 200 uniques so far.

The PC you have it on is more than enough to handle it, unless the CPU is very old.

Your PC would be overkill, unless you were running a server with 20+ people logged in all the time.
