Hi,

the drives in my server are reporting to be 40 - 47 degrees. is this too hot to continue running for another 7 days till i get a cooling solution sorted out?

also in a hdd monitoring tool my hard drive health shows at 45%

i know im paranoid but do you think everything will be ok till next Tuesday

cheers

i think its a decent temp..

if u're that paranoid, try to clean ur case and remove all dust that've build up in the fans. Then also do some cable management and ensure smooth air-flow inside the case.

Id say thats too hot, the drive in my laptop hits about 49C at the highest and it gets no cooling, its also starting to die, probably because it gets so hot. My 3 drives in my pc average 26C-31C with a very low speed fan blowing over them.

put a fan in front of the case, this will help a bit. 40-50C is rather hot for a hard drive.

We run ours at nothing above 35 (30 most times)

are those 7200rpm hdds??

i'm using 15k SCSIs and they are very hot... i already have a 120mm fan blowing straight at it..

cheers, its just that i never really monitor the temps in my desktops and 46 sounded pretty hot.

unfortunately that is not possible until the weekend when the house is empty, i will upgrading my disk set at the weekend also so i will sort it out then

at the moment the airflow is terrible:

cant get hold of a new case yet so its gona have to do me for a while.

Route ur SATA cables together with ur ATA cables. Alternatively, u can install ur IDE hdd onto the spare floppy slot.

Route the dangling cables to the 5.25" slots.

Is there a fan at the front of the case? if not, pls install 1. And also install another fan at the back of the casing.

First of wtf happened to your heat pipe, your mosfets aren't getting any cooling? and Second your hard drive cage isn't that great. Even if there was a fan up front the drives would get barely any air flow because there is no outlet out the back, and the air would have to flow out the sides, leaving a dead spot in the center. The drives are also very close together restricting airflow.

yup.. i think he should move his IDE drive up to the floppy slot and then leave an empty slot between the 3 x hdd cage to allow some air flow.

and if i'm not wrong, this should be a Lian Li case.

the heat pipe is a long story, but the mofsetes are almost room temp anyway, its only an under volted sempron.

Its not a lian-li case even tho the hard drive cage is from one :p

moved the hdd's and routed the cables

temps are bout 2 degrees better.
