Hey all. I am gonna try my best too explain what i need help with. But english is not my best language.
I am gonna build a Rack server with space too 24 drives witch will be fine for a while. But i want too make sure i can expend it with a 3U or 4U for future drives.
I am thinking about getting a MegaRAID ® SAS 9261-8i it can handle 128 drives, and it have 2 ports, so i would also need a sas expender, too the first box, and i think i would go with the Chenbro CK23601 36 port expander card- 6GB it can handle 24 drives...
My plain was simple have the server in the first box and just get another box and put a raid expender and a PSU in that box and keep expend that way till i reach the limt i am thinking the controller should handle about 96 drives in the end, but i will expend it over some years. I know maby some would say its stupid too think about this now when i dont even have the first box running yet. But i like too think ahead of myself. So i know what i am doing...
I was also thinking maby it was stupid and run that many drives at one controller if the controller fails ? wich would be pretty bad.
My spec would be something like this:
X-Case RM 424 - 24 Hotswap Bay 6GB Mini SAS (SATA/SAS Backplane) - Rail Kit included
ASUS P8B-E/4L ATX
256 GB SSD ?
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX850 V2
Intel Xeon E3-1230 / 3.2 GHz, LGA1155 Socket, L3 8 MB, 80 W, Box
Kingston 32GB DDR3 1600MHz (4x8) Value EEC
MegaRAID ® SAS 9261-8i with backup batteri
Chenbro CK23601 36 port expander card- 6GB
What SSD should i get i am thinking about the samsung 830 or maby Intel or crucial m4 ?
I hope someone would post in this thread thanks alot.
