Server Build Advice

I am looking into building a server and needed some advice on how to go about building it. It will mainly be used for the storage of random things like blu ray movies, programs, tv shows, backups, etc. I will also be using it to stream the stored blu ray movies to a few different players. I need some advice on a few things. One is the OS, I was looking at unRaid but I didnt know if I should maybe lean towards a Windows Server and try to do like a Raid5 or Raid6 solution. I am not really sure. Also I need advice on what parts to get for my build. I realize that the Controller card I end up getting will depend on the OS. Overall I am aiming for about 10-15 TB's of usable storage and Also I will be using an SSD for the OS. Also in the future I might be interested in ESXi VM's

There are a million threads like this one on this forum by now.. Search, read and come back when you have a question that hasn't been answered and discussed in detail hundreds of times already.

Please :)

Alittle sloppy request also.

Everything was going fine, till the last sentence, where you just throw in esxi.

Building a storage server is one thing, building a server for esxi is totally different. And I assume you would still want to use the storage server on esxi as a vm once you did that.
This wouldn't be something you just thow around in the future, it can make a good mess of things, expecually if you went with windows for the storage os.

For a storage server your mainly looking at lots of disks, an ok around of ram.
For esxi server your looking at lots of memory, maybe some cpu, storage depends.
The design goals don't overlap well.

I apologize for my sloppy thread. I will do some reading of the other threads
