Hello,
I was just wondering I have xp laptops that are set to autoupdate (we don't have a server setup yet to push out windows updates onsite). How do I go about setting it such that the user will NOT be forced to reboot after updates are installed? Will this also work when they are offsite and not connected to our server? Also, our domain is running server 2003.
Thank You

There is a setting in GPO that says 'dont show reboot option' after updates.
The machine will just update then nothing.
If you apply this via gpo and then user is not connected to the domain and updates occur this policy will not apply.
You apply the gpo locally to each machine
log onto the machine and then start>run>gpedit.msc
This will edit the local machine policy

Thanks for the info. I also found the info on Microsoft's site. I'm not sure in our case if it will matter if it reverts to the 5 minute interval (that is default) for the reboot when the laptops are offsite. Thanks again.

Would it still revert when they are offsite and not talking with our domain (but logging into the domain cached)? Or would it stick with what I set via GPO? Sorry I just wanted to make sure I am clear because I don't want a machine forcing a reboot on someone during a presentation.

In case anyone else reading this wants it, here it is. http://207.46.196.114/windowsserver/en/library/51c8a814-6665-4d50-a0d8-2ae27e69ca7c1033.mspx?mfr=true
