I know dvi is digital... but is it better??? because I can't change the contrast using dvi on my 20.1 lcd dell 2001fp... :(

Yes you can, but it's a bit more tricky. With DVI your video card does a lot of the thinking for you, but you still have to calibrate any monitor before it's worth a damn, a step most people don't take.

Calibration on an LCD is not the same as a CRT. Try this; bring all three color levels down equally. Start with one notch at a time but do all three the same. Each time you make a change re-check your blacks. Once you get a pretty good black go to your gray scale screen and look for tint issues. Correct your tint with your individual color adjustments, you want real white and real black.

After that touch up with your contrast and brightness(unless you have a DVI cable). That should get you pretty close.

Double check your vid card settings as well, most software lets you add a profile that loads when you reboot. It’s tricky but you can get very good blacks if you take your time.

That should get you started ;)

btw what is the gray scale screen? and what tint issues?? ...

on lcd... I go to color.. I just see... green... red.. blue adjustments...

should I really use dvi? and not regular video cable...??

what is really good about dvi cable anyways...

somehow moments ago... my screen turned yellowish..... and screen flashed on and off... then it turned off... and it kept saying dvi-d 2 not able to display... =\

it takes a while for me to make it work again...

Basically the DVI cable transfers information that the monitor won't have to decode, thereby making it the quicker solution. LCD monitors are, by nature, digital and anytime you hook it up to a VGA outlet, it takes some of the monitor's processing time (read the ADC) and therefore results in lower quality.

And also when you run DisplayMate, with the analog connection you can see some video noise that you would not otherwise see with DVI

So its impossible to adjust the contrast on DVI?

I can change the contrast on mine and I'm using DVI. It should be a setting independant of your means of input connection.
