Serious question with core2duo and overclocking:

Q4: 1280x1024:

Asus P5B-e Deluxe - 105.0fps 7x266 1868mhz
Asus P5B-e Deluxe - 113.6fps 7x525 3675mhz

8.6 fps? for a near 100% oc / 1807mhz ? I under stand 1280x1024 may be video card depended, but for a X1950XTX? Maybe these test would be better on 640x480 or 800x600.

With my 3700+ AMD 2.2 ghz to 2.8 ghz (600mhz) is a huge difference. Some times more then 70+fps in benchmark demos in some games.

Many people on this forum and other hardware forums try to show off every last bit of mhz on their core2duo. Many of these results and tests are benchmarked with Pii or 3dmark. Does anyone have any bench marks of games like q4, bf2, fps games?

Does overclocking the core2duo past a certain point.... doesn't improve performance ? I just know on my AMD64 build that every mhz is worth it. It seems like on the c2d there is no deferences between from 3500 and 1800. I mean 8 frames ? Shouldn't it be more like 100 frames or more?
 
I sure notice the improvement in OC speed when using WinAVI!

Uhhh...yeah. At all resolutions.

If the cpu isn't the bottleneck, then an increase in cpu speed isn't going to dramatically affect framerates.

Run a cpu intensive app like a media encoder and then come back saying cpu speed doesn't matter...
 
What im saying is that at low resolutions, in games, with all the graphical stuff turned off or on low (make the game look like shit) so the video card is NOT the bottle neck, what is the performance difference between an overclocked c2d @ 3200 compared to 3600+.

Games like rtcw, et, prey etc... are more cpu / ram when video cards at LOW resolutions.

Reason I ask is because if you play game seriously and are in it for competition, you don't have at 1920x1080 etc.

Judging by http://www.anandtech.com benchmarks it appears that the video card is the bottle neck. They should have ran the test at a lower resolution to see the performance difference between 1800mhz and 3500mhz
 
You're being pretty selective with the benchmark you quoted. I didn't bother looking at the article for my first response because I was respnding to your comment. After looking at the article, I'm concluding that you're a troll.

In the same article you quoted, BF2 showed a dramatic increase with the overclock. On the P5-B-E Deluxe Wi-Fi, it ran 104.9 FPS stock and 145.1 FPS overclocked. I'd say that's significant.

Also, in apps that aren't gpu dependant (suprise), there were some huge increases. Encoding and calulation benchmarks (Nero, WinRAR, SuperPi) showed huge improvements again with the overclock.

Basing your argument on the fact that Quake4 didn't show a big improvement, just goes to show that Quake4 is GPU limited, not CPU.

Who cares? No one plays games at 600x800 anymore. The article referenced two games at 1280x1024...one that was heavily gpu dependent, one that was not. The results spoke for themselves.

If you play competition, you can use a high end card, or SLI and max out frames at reasonable resolutions and settings.

If you look at the article, as a whole, instead of fixating on one bench, you'd see the performance difference. If you don't like the tests they ran, do your own.
 
Overclocking will have more effect on other things than it will on graphics. Try overclocking the 1950 and you should get better FPS.
