Serious problem with explorer.exe

For some reason whenever I'm in the middle of doing something on a certain computer at work, it will sometimes throw up an error that says explorer.exe has caused an error and must restart. Sometimes it will cause the computer itself to restart and other times it will only restart explorer. I have deduced that it may not be a hardware problem. I have run memtest88 and no errors have come up. Here are specs

Mobo - Asus A7N8X-VM
CPU - Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
Ram - Corsair PC3200 value select
Video - onboard
Harddrive - WD 40gig special edition 8mb cache
standard cd-rom and floppy drive.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

What version of Windows are you using?

Did you run any of teh following utilities? Fully updated?

Defrag
Disk Cleanup
Scandisk

new install of Windows 2000 Professional

All of the service packs are installed and since it's a new install I don't need to run anything except maybe scandisk, which I've already done. Thanks for the suggestions.

check the event viewer and see if there is an entry about what is causing explorer to crash.

Fixed the problem, for some reason the onboard video is screwed up on this model motherboard. I've had the problem with three of the boards. I just dropped a Radeon 9600XT into this one and it solved the problem. Who knows, it's fixed so hooray!

It's probably just a driver issue. See if there is an updated driver for the video. Or just don't worry about it if you aren't going to use it.

I looked for an updated driver for the video but there wasnt' one, it doesn't really matter because like you said, I'm not going to use it.
