Serious help.

Hi, sorry about if this is in the wrong section or anything but it's my first post.

My problem is that when I turn my pc on in normal mode I get white dotted lines or a multicoloured pattern on my screen and the display crashes (I say display because I can still hear audio when this happens.) When I launch it in safe mode I get the white dots, but it doesn't crash.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone can help with the problem as it's been like this for about a week now and i've googled and had my case open and everything is connected and such.

My card is a 8800GT.

Help appreciated,
Thanks.

Sounds like bad memory or over heating. Try down clocking your video card's clocks and see if that does the trick.

Have you recently installed another graphics driver?
If not, it sounds like overheating gfx card or faulty card.

There is a small possibility the PSU may be the problem.
Try unplugging as many things as possible to see if the problem improves with less power being drawn.

I vote for bad card / powersupply. It also could be the monitor screwing up, did you try it on a different computer?

i know you probably hate to hear this but you card is going out :(
really hope its still under warranty

and i know everyone else basically posted the same thing but i know that when i post something like this i have to get like a million ppl saying the same thing before i give up hope lol

Sounds like overheating to me... that's what happens when my 8800 overheats. You might use rivatuner to crank the fan up, and see if that helps. If it doesn't, time for an rma.

Did you check the VGA/DVI plug? Sometime you just have to unplug it, blow on it, and plug it back in tight. I'm not kidding. If there is more than one port on the monitor (like VGA + DVI + HDMI, etc.) then try every port with a different cable. Its always worth a shot. If its still messed up my bet would be on bad VRAM.
