Ok guys.. Im having a problem with my box..
What I have
Abit IC7-G
460W Enermax power supply
P4 2.8 ghz proc @ 3.5 ghz (200x14)
2x512 Corsair 3200 DDR Memory (in dual channel)
eVGA 6800GT
2 10,000 RPM raptors in Raid 0
onboard sound/lan

Ok, so Doom 3 played fine no problems, HL2 was a pain in the ass because it had this problem. I figured it was HL2 and bad coding or something.
JUst downloaded F.E.A.R and Q4 demos and Im having the exact same problem that i did with HL2.

This is the problem. I can start to play and anywhere between 2 and 10 mintues the screen will go jarbled for a split second then my monitor will go off any everything is silent.
If I reset the machine it makes all its normal POST sounds and but the monitor never kicks back on. I have to completly shut down my system to get it to work again.

I always thought this was a diver issue or something but I have all the latest Drivers/Bios/Patches and its still happening. Ive also used different plugs from my PS and ist still happening.

All games are unplayable and its very annoying. I sent an email out to eVGA but havent gotten a response yet im just curious to see what anyone else thinks about this.

Thanks

Are you playing on a crt or lcd? It may be the card but I would eliminate it being your display first then troubleshoot the card. Do you still hear the game when the display blacks out?

No my computer is dead at that point.
It is a CRT btw..

Ok and I change my original statement about the reset part. When you reset it doesnt even POST all the drives spin up like it wants to boot but no sound or anything

It sounds like you need to start some basic troubleshooting. Check out this thread as it has several useful programs.

Specifically look at memtest86, RTHDRIB, prime95 and SuperPI.

Good luck.

sounds like overheating probs with the gfx card or the psu is at fault.
first set the machine back to stock speeds and test both the gfx card by stressing the crap outta it and if that works out fine then try the machine with a spare psu..and see where that leads if not then try and see if your machine works without the huge overclock.

Ive had my machine for 2 years.. its run rock solid at 3.5ghz..
i had a 9800 pro that i had OC'd that ran rock solid then i broke it
so i got the 6800GT and it ran fine for Doom3 but it sucked when i bought HL2.
I figured it was a HL2 problem but now im having the smae problem with all my games..
(well to be honest i havent played D3 in awhile, just HL2, F.E.A.R., Quake4)

oh btw, the 6800GT is bone stock with stock heat sink.. never been touched.

make sure the split power connector on the 6800GT is connected to separate chains from the PSU. I had the same issue and had both connectors for the vid card to the same PSU chain and when i changed i have had no issues. And mine cropped up out of nowhere as well. Hope this helps.

The 6800GT only has one power connecter and its on its own chain.

Also i have killed the CPU OC (its the only thing OC'd) and i still have the same problem in the same amount of time (2 - 10 mintues)

Just ran it through 3Dmark05 and i made it to the 3rd scene with the dragon flying over the ship and it died

Ok just did the HL2 Stress test with some diagnostic stuff open..

My +12v power ranges from 12.01 - 11.8 but never dipped below 11.8
The temp reading in the display properties (provided by nvidia)
read that my card went from 50-60C at rest to 108-115C under the stress test.. when it got that hot is when it dies.
Is this normal heat for the 6800GT or is it possible that mine is no longer cooling correctly?

I found the potential problem. You went from ATI drivers to Nvidia drivers. I'm hoping to god that you reformatted. If you did, i missed, if i'm right, that's like a big no no :)

that seems pretty warm to me ...is the fan actually spinning on the vidcard?

if it is spinning ..does it seem "slow"?

my cards dont see much of 50c under stress

Ive formatted since then I have also used Driver Cleaner.

Im thinking its a temp issue at this point
