serious defects in c2d ?

I'd like to see somebody in the real world comment on this stuff.

I have 4 C2Ds and have not one problem, plus they OC like mad.:D
 
This is a joke right. Well lets just say, Do some research and find out exactly why they have this "critical update"

I have 17 C2D computers folding and none had issues. It is more like issues to avoid while doing programming...

While the point of that posting from Theo is to get some word out to poeple who have a clue, the response from the "masses" is hilarious. Most people who are poo-pooing these bugs have no concept of what they actually are or what they involve.

Seems to me like you need to worry about these if you're hand coding ASM (for SIMD pathways or such) or dealing with low-level systems programming...like he is, since he is one of the principal BSD (Free I think? dunno, maybe Open) programmers. I don't think the average user needs to worry too much.
 
IF they are so buggy, how do they manage to run a complex program such as "operating system" for weeks on end without crashing?
 
The bugs are exploitable meaning a malicious programmer can use them to gain access to restricted parts of your system.

The malicious programmer doesnt have to be you or your mate, it could be anyone. All you need to do is run their code which could be from a compromised website, a warez download etc etc.

This is as bad as a virus that uses an OS exploit except some of these errata might not be patchable!

Right, it's just all 3 of these threads are generally about the same thing: The Intel CD2 problems. Thats what I was refering too. But oh well.

Seriously, I think this is going to be another one of those wildly overblown things like the old P60/66 bug. It probably takes a fairly specific and rare set of conditions to make the error surface. Intel's chips (and AMD's) always have had errata, it's nothing new. Some people just like making every mole hill into a mountain.

Hey, you could always buy an App.. no they use Intel.. A Sun.. hmm no... Via? Well, buy some "other" processor! I'm sure they have no bugs at all!

That link is a joke. I see no reason to believe any of it. Some of the stuff that is said is laughable.
 
Anyone who knows anything about processors knows that all of them have a long list of bugs or errata as they call it. Over time and with new revisions some of these bugs get fixed but a lot of them don't. When the next processor generation comes out they hope to fix all the previous bugs but each time they introduce a new set. Same thing happens with operating systems, cars, trucks, boats, planes, etc., etc.

We can all go sit in a box and wait for the perfect computer and operating system to appear but trust me, it ain't going to happen.

You're far less likely having your bank account drained by a Core 2 Duo that's gone bad than by a wife or girlfriend that has also gone bad. :D Very bad!
