I am currently building a computer with an NF7-S motherboard, and a Seagate Serial ATA Hardrive, but i can't install windows, because it wont recognize the harddrive. Does Windows require some Serial ATA drivers to install? Why won't Windows recognize the harddrive.

yes. rtfm on the sata. should be a floppy disk with the driver. and i beleive you hit f6 or something during the windows install. pay careful attention to the bottom of the screen.

When you see the "setup is detecting hardware" at the black screen be ready to press F6 (you will see a message at the blue screen that says "press F6 if you need to install additional drivers")

Once you press F6, choose 'Other' from the list and read the drivers from the floppy drive... dont put that floppy anywhere as you may need it later in the install process...

should work after that ;)

yah we try to hit f6 in the setup but it doesnt do anything, i just ignores it. we have the sata drivers diskl that the mobo came with, but the f6 doesnt get us to a driver install page

you have to be quick, in reality it doesnt hurt to be pressing F6 from the start if you are having problems doing it in time ;)

yah we mashed f6 constantly from the BIOS screen all throuth the detecting hardware screen and still nothing, we even tried another keyboard

im thinking that windows install cd was messed up or something

Erg... no.

Just do this.

boot off of the winxp CD, let it load, hit F6 when prompted.. now WAIT!

Be PATIENT as it loads the rest of the drivers. Once that is through, you will be PROMPTED to insert a disk with the drivers on it.

HITTING F6 WHEN IT ASKS YOU TO WILL NOT OPEN A PROMPT FOR YOU RIGHT AWAY.

This has been the solution to 90% of the people who have asked the question ;)

If the drivers on the NF7-S disk don't work (WinXP bitches about there being no mass storage drive even after you've installed the drivers) then go to Seagate's website and download the appropriate SATA drivers for your drive.

Bam, you're done.

Make sure your your keyboard Funciton keys are enabled. If you have a multimedia keybaord the Funcition keys go off by drefualt on boot. You need to reenable them just like a numlock as the machine is booting then your f6 will work lol

angry hit the nail on the head. The screen doesn't come up right away. It comes up just befor setup finishes initialization. It will allow you to choose from any special drivers it finds on other drives. I had to do this and experienced no problems afterwards.

Also a good idea.. F-Lock is the dumbest thing ever and it's gonna mess a lot of people up if they don't know that it's set to off (as in, Function keys are not actually Function keys).

Dumb ol' MS.
