I have a SATA - 100 5400RPM harddrive. Does it make a huge difference if i buy a 7200 RPM instead of my current 5400RPM SATA harddrive with my system specs would it make a big performance boost?

Yes. Definitely. The difference from going 5400RPM to 7200RPM was great. Load times and everything. Once the games are loaded, though... it wouldn't matter too much.

But then again, I'm surviving on a 4200RPM HDD.... *shrug* Maybe the newer slower drives are better. Cos I was dying with my 16GB 5400RPM when I was using my P3 550MHz...

Well, yes, the spindle speed *can* make a noticable difference. it all depends on what you are going to be using the drive for.

For general data storage, such as mp3's, divx files, etc. you probably would not notice a difference at all. However, if you are executing applications off of this drive, or... say loading maps from a game or something of the like, then yes you would certainly notice a difference in load times.

Hope this clarifies a little bit.

What kind of drive do you have that's SATA and 5400 rpm?
