is there any way of separating the windows sound effects from music playing in itunes or wmp etc? it's very annoying to have my music playing loudly in a media player and then one of my aim buddy alerts or a system error alert or something to that effect goes off and its this deafening beep noise. i'm using the original audigy, if that helps

Foobar with kernel streaming output activated will allow that.
Not to mention that this output mode will also keep windows mixer from mangling the sound.
