Separating lcd panel from inverter, power, etc.

I want to build a REAL thin monitor housing which will require I separate the lcd panel from the inverter, power, and other guts. The problem in doing this is finding the correct cable/flex pcb to extend the connection.

Where might I source these cables? What restrictions in cable length should I be aware of?

Also, I would like to have a flat vga cable (to make threading the cable possible versus building the enclosure around the cable). Does such a thing exist?

I'm a real newbie to modding anything, :confused: so your good replies in simple language will be really appreciated.
