what i have: audigy 2 ZS + logitech z-5300

what i'm gonna get: a sennheiser set (undecided)

I'm interested in buying an unamped headphone set. alot of you are saying that the HD -590's are a rip off. So I was considering the HD-580's or the Pc - 150's. You all said the Pc 150's were crap, you can't blame me for repeating waht you said.

590s are shit. Stay away from them. Yes, I have heard them. They suck a lot of ass. 580s need an amp. You want unamped, I say get an Audiotechnica ATH 900. They sound very nice unamped. They are known to be easily driven. They're also known to have great balance. Some even prefer them over the 580s.

audiocubes.com has them. 195 I believe.
 
Or for the same price (or less) you could get a used HD580 + a nice Cmoy amp from yours truely.....

I personally reccomend the HD580...definetly some nice headphones!

Cmoy+ HD580s= sure case of upgrade syndrome.
 
I assume you don't want to get an amp because of the added cost, so I suggest the lowest cost amp that will make the HD580's (IMO) worthwhile until you get a better amp...

wouldn't an unamped set of cans get you jonesin' for some amped can goodness more than 580's + cmoy would?
 
While we're arguing here, I've had my 580's for 3 months and I'd like to buy an amp. What do you guys recommend for maybe ~$200 price range (I'm estimating they'll cost around this ballpark figure being that I know nothing about amps).
 
Imo you should have made a new thread but anyway, for $200 your best bet is probably a PIMETA.

Pretty much...though I understand(haven't heard them personally) that the HD 25(not the SP) are pretty good unamped. That may be the exception....

The specs for the $200 pimeta:

2 nichicon upw 220uf 25v caps per channel
1 radioshack mini jack input, bare wires for input
1 bare wires for power (your choice, batteries or wallwart!)
1 buffer per channel
radioshack resitors
panasonic pot
tupperware enclosure
no knob
no class a bias

that's one mighty fine amp! :D

I took it back to the drawing board....I'm thinking of using those fatty leads off of some diodes for the hookup wire.
