So i decided to go with the hd280's and a pimeta amp from mister x. I have read in other forums about having to burn in your head phones? Would you guys recommend amping them and just letting them play to burn them in or is there some other method of properly burning them in that i should do?

I say put them on the amp, put them on your head, and listen.
They might start sounding better in a few days... let them play all night if you want, wake up in the morning give them a listen--they might sound better.

Just as a heads up, some headphones will change very little with use, and others will.
My HD590's did'nt benifite....... while my DT990pro's did.... but then again, its still very minimal to my ears.
Anyway, nat, have you used the HD280pro's for any lenght of time...... or is it just a whim from some peoples recommendations?
Personally I don't like the HD280's very much at all. I'm not sure how much you paid for the headphone amp, but i sure would have just plooped the money on better headphones. (but that's just me )
Oh well, once you get them, and use them for about a month, be sure to post a little review on them. ^_^ Other people are in the same position you are in, and your review would be helpful to them.

You don't have to burn them in, but it will usually help them to start producing truer sounds quicker. I build my own normal speakers, and when burning in to test them I play sound clips of precise frequencies, and then use a mic and analyzer software to compare the output, and after a few hours of use the anaylzer does show more accurate responses.
Some have mentioned that the 280s need hundreds of hours of burn-in to achieve further improved sound. More Head-Fi threads of interest for OP:

agreed!! when I first plugged them in they sounded like crap absolutley no bass with a very synthetic and hollow sound. I did a 48 hour burn in before I even started using them.
Now they sound f**king cool, bass, crystall clear defined sound, easy to pinpoint sounds in games especially CS, DOOM 3, farcry etc..
