Hey i got the system almost completely done, complete submersion and all. Runs about -10 c without most of the insulation, still testing. I was just wondering if anyone knew any good sites or such for overclocking an AMD athalon 2600+ and or monitoring it

You senior project is overclocking?

That is awesome :D

I personally would have picked a different processor to overclock, like a AXP-M 2400 35W.

It just doesn't look right with a Raidmax sitting on top of it...

No kidding, as cool as it would be to have a senior project like that, the project itself is NOT being done any justice.

What are the rest of the system specs? With a PSU like that raidmax I dont really see the full potential of that cooling really being realised, those PSU's are horrible for any more than standard overclocking (anything beyond air cooling involving high FSB clocks and extra CPU voltage). Personally opinion I suppose, but a project is a project none-the-less.

If there was one thing about this project that you would change it would be?

Also i am having some problems with overclocking. I can increase the multiplier but it seems to become unstable under highload circumstances. The temp of the processor is not the cause, was wondering if theres another setting im missing to fix this?

Nope, chips do have an inherent max value and there's nothing you can do about it.

That will end up being the case eventually.

How can you say that the temp is NOT the cause...what specific clock/voltage are you running and what kind of temperatures are you hitting?

OK so the core temp of the proceesor at normal settings is -15 C. I have kind of a crappy MOBO and PSU
ECS KT400-8235 L7TA2C-00 MOBO with a AMD Athlon XP 2600+
but i got a newer MOBO now but no time to install now. I can get the multiplier to about 139 but it doesnt want to go any higher than that. What settings do I need to change along with the multiplier to operate stabily? Or would just replacing the PSU work to do it?

a senior project that's overclocking??

i hope you're not an eletrical or computer engineering major.. cause if you are.. that's a lame project... it doesn't really take any specialized skills you learned in school.. but whatever.. i'll stop crapping on the thread

haha its more original that 95% of the other ones
no.. i've seen peopel try to pass overclocking as a senior design here.. they pretty much get laughed at ... and then get turned down, and are told to do something else.

Do you know WebTemp?

Works together with SpeedFan, MBM and the like and creates statistics like these:

Download (freeware plus a slightly enhanced low-budget version):

LOL I wonder if it can display those low temps at all. I think that could give a nice chart...

why not do something a little more in depth than just cooling a CPU. and if you are going to do overclocking why not at least get a historically good overclocking chip, like the 1600+ (extreme budget system) or one of the newer OC'ers?

I agree with this completely...but I'd also be in the position where I'd rather use what I already have then dump a bunch of cash into a system just for a school assignment. :p

Ah well, still an interesting project. Doesn't matter if it's been done before and that it's not making use of the best hardware out there, it's still a cool project.

Got a new MOBO and making the new custome top for my fish tank lol. the new one is known for being good with overclock and is supported by ClockGen. Figured out that my problems where the old MOBO since the multiplier wouldnt go above 139. Pictures soon :D

Good stuff, nice to hear that you're working on some upgrades...good luck man.

got an overclock from 2.1 to 2.4 with a one degree temperature change (3 degrees celcius to 4 degrees celcius core temp) i seem to have a problem going past this, anyone know why? i can change the FSB and multiplier but once I get to a lil over 2.4 it wont start. Do i have to increase the voltage going to the processor to support the higher speeds? crashed at around 200 FSB and 12x multiplier

Yes, increase vCore.

Try a better power supply, it might not have enough juice.

this thread kills me ... rofl .....

i think i'll just pick some really random parts and FREEZE them...

mal

oh.. does anybody know why my leds are slightly less bright than yesterday ... they seem less bright to me today.. any clues.... ?

Exactly what i was going to say.

I don't mean to offend the OP'er, but usually when someone wants to do a report or project on overclocking they have a fair bit of knowledge about it to begin with. The basic question "do I have to increase the voltage" leaves me thinking that you're (ShinySwords) not quite able to take full advantage of the cooling you've got available.

No offence meant though, as this is still a cool project...it'd just be nice to have it in better hands I think.

its a learning expiriance lol. The main objective was the cooling behind it, the overclock is just to show off. Wish me luck.

Also I ran that burnin program that over taxes your CPU to failure and got a 2 degree temp change after an hour lol

Very nice (small) temperature delta...cooling seems to be doing it's job quite well. :)
