I'm building a budget pc and can'tt decide if I should go with the 1.8duron or the 2300+ sempron. Is there much difference between them and how much better is the 2400+ sempron then the 2300+ sempron and the 2500+ sempron to the 2400+ sempron and so on. I'm just building a server that will do software raid 5. Is the duron better because it has a frequecny of 1.8Ghz and the semprons have about 1.5ghz help guys gotta make a decission soon thanks.

i think that the sempron would be the better choice performance wise, although its a slower MHz it has the higher FSB and 256k of L2 cache, the duron only has a puny 64k L2 cache, the duron is cheaper, but the sempron would blow it out of the water

thanks pstang but is there a big difference from sempron to sempron im on a budget but the price seperating the 2300+ from the 2400+ is 4 bucks and the price seperating the 2400+ from the 2500+ is 3 bucks so should I spend the extra bucks is it worth it will I notice it.

you probablly will not notice any difference between the 2500+ and the 2300+
while the 2500+ is a faster chip it is less than a 200MHz faster, if you plan on doing any overclocking you can probablly achieve speeds greater than the 2500+ with a 2300+

I don't think ill over clock because it will be running a linux software raid 5 array and I don't want to take any chances I want to keep it as stable as possible. Thanks for the info. I might just spend the extra 8 bucks and go from a 2300+ to a 2500+ by the way is a 500watt power supply good enough to run 10 drives. thank you.

8 dollars is justified i think.

whats the power supply? if its a shitty generic one, i wouldnt trust it with one drive, let alone a 10 drive raid5 array. you got linkage?

linkage? lol I don't know what that is so I'm guessing no. can you recommend a good power supply at a decent price. I just plan on running 10 X 160gig drives no optical drives and no video card or anything one 2 port sata controller and thats it.

I really like fortron's, but your question could probably be better answered in the PSU forum. Also there is the sticky on top in the PSU forum with lots of good psu's at different price ranges.
Here is the Thread

linkage was just me asking for alink to the supply you had :p

if you dont have a supply yet, fortran, sparkle, antec, PC power and cooling are some good brands.

lol my brain was falling asleep here is a link :D http://www.chiefvalue.com/app/productdetails.asp?linkid=111&item=17-163-025

and thanks for a link to that post Ehjaykim. I don't need fancy neon lit windows or anything just reliable power. I made another post in the right place I was just asking here since I already made this post for my question on processors.

lol will do. I've taken my own thread off topic :p the psu discussion can continue here in the appropiate section. Thanks guys.
