This is a rant, but help would also be nice, i had my wisdom teeth out friday and no more pain meds and getting killer headaches now!

(cliff notes at bottom)

So i redo my HTPC, with an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI. (put my Q6600 into it)

i go to Asus website to download the audio drivers:

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5E-VM HDMI

Choose Vista 64 as my OS from their menu (since i have Home Premium x64)

i click their link to download

Realtek ALC883 Audio Driver WHQL V6.0.1.5404 for Windows 32/64bit Vista.

Okay great they are done downloading, so i run the first installer in the Audio folder that comes when they are extracted

AsusSetup: Does not support this Operating System: WNT_6.0H_MCE

okay, so i go into the x64 folder, try that .exe same dam message! okay so i try the exe in the vista folder same dam f**king messsage!

are they retarded? why offer drivers that arent compatible with the OS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You hacve them listsed as being for Vista so why am i getting this dam error! I am not running MCE!! (unless Home premium is code name for MCE!)

God crap like this really pi**es me off!!!!

Cliff Notes
  • Wisdom teeth out causing bad headaches
  • Asus Website tells me to download a certain driver
  • Asus then tells me that certain driver not compatible with the OS
  • HTPC second away from gong through a window

So i hd to dig out my mobo CD and install the driver from there which worked fine... but still, why have a driver on a page that isnt for the OS they say it is!

anyone else have this problem?

Well that's funny, installing drivers worked fine on Vista 64 for me with that exact motherboard. Maybe you got an early-version driver CD?

Well, I prefer to use the manf. website instead anyways. (I.E Realtek.com.tw)
But that is REALLY annoying.

ya, the cd i dont think uses the Asuses installer perhaps, just the straight driver from realtek, dam annoying, dont people test these things first! before putting them for upload for the world

Dell has done the same thing a few times, they tossed up drivers for server 2008, that were just server 2003 drivers wrapped in their installer and then once you get into installing it, the makes installer says, sorry! wrong OS! Went through about 2 weeks of back and forth with them and ATI about it and each kept blaming the other for it.

Did you try installing the drivers through "Device Manager" and not with the CD or the file you downloaded?

I've always had great luck with Asus' downloads. Maybe a hiccup here and there, but nothing major.

(Sorry for your headaches... GET MOAR DRUGZ! :p)

i didnt try it through device manager as the installer only have an exe file and some inf files it seems, no ini files or others :(

got to get more tomorrow! woo hoo

Asus's website has a curious issue... they'll have 2 drivers listed, one that is only 20kb, the other several megs. The former is an update for the latter, you have to download both and copy the update into the older driver's directory to install. Drove me crazy when I was trying to update my network card driver. Ended up going to the manufacturer directly and got a driver that stopped causing issues.

that is crazy, talk about making people run around for a driver.

for that board they only had 1 download with 1 link.

Run the exe in compatibility mode, some idiot must have used the wrong tag in the driver

Are using the HDMI or the realtek audio? If you are using the HDMI, get the driver from Intel. The one on ASUS' website will cause crashes. If you need the Realtek, just get it from their site, it will be a newer version anyway. Make sure not use both at the same time.
