Selling an Old Computer

I've been thinking about downsizing my computer (as in physically). I build this computer in 2010 so the hardware is a little outdated. Here are the specs:

Intel Core i7 930
ASUS Rampage III Motherboard
12 GB RAM (Forgot the particulars)
ATI Radeon HD 5970
256 GB SSD
2x 2TB WD Blacks
Silverstone FT02 case

While I like the look and the top facing motherboard ports of the FT02, it is quite the monster to lug around. I hope to "upgrade" to a Micro or even Mini ATX system. So my question is should I try and sell the parts individually or as a complete system? There are some extras that I would want to sell with the system as well such as my monitor (Dell U2711). So what should I do?

Try and sell the entire system locally (through Craigslist or whatever) first. If you don't get any takers, part it out and sell the components on the forums here.

Shipping costs on monitors and a big case like that can be prohibitive. You might end up still wanting to sell those locally, even if you're able to unload the other components through online forums.

You can donate the computer and take it off your taxes. About 5 years back I parted out all extra parts (hard drives, sound card, video cards, etc) out of a computer and sold them online. Then I donated the rest (it was still a fully functional computer).

x58 motherboards still go for a pretty penny on ebay. See what you can get with it all together, and then see how much that motherboard goes for on ebay. Probably part it out to get the max money.
