hi everyone.
I upgraded someones hard drive and while we were there everything was working with both plugged in.
He then for some reason wanted to only boot up from his old hard drive. So he went on his own ( i was not there ) and switched the cables and power cables. he turned it on and he smelled burning and turned it off right away.
now the bios wont recognize that it even exsists and will hang when dectecting ide devies.
I assume it was shorted out for what ever reason ,is there any way I could fix it myself? im fairly competent with electronics and soldering, ect.
If i send it to the only company in the boston area for data recovery they want $400 minimum. $200 just to look at it to tell me if it is even fixable and that $200 is non refundable.
I think its a little steep. Am I right or are the prices fair
Are there any guides or any help I can get for a solo repair?
any help will save me time and money thanks all.
