First of all, I apologize if this was discussed somewhere else, but I couldn't find anything helpful. Second of all, I am completely new to VM.

I am trying to install ESXi 5.1. After fighting with booting problems, I was finally able to start the ESXi install. During the install, I make it successfully to the screen that says "select a disk to Install, Local or Remote." However, I have no options listed, and it seems that no disks are being recognized.

Has anyone experienced this or can anyone explain to me what the underlying problems is?

Quick back story - The machine was running completely fine. I installed more memory and then the computer would not boot up anymore. I have reverted back to the initial memory amount, and have to re-install ESXi.

Sounds like it didn't load the driver for your storage sub-system. Double-check your hardware is on the compatible list.

Otherwise you could go with Hyper-V 2012. Much more flexible in terms of hardware support.

Try changing in the bios your sata ports from AHCI to IDE or vice versa.
What motherboard are you using?
