Currently I am powering the rig in my sig with a Maddog Surepower 500watt PSU. My system has been stable for a couple months now with no problems.

With that said I lucked into a BFG PSU which is a rebranded FPS530-60GNA at a really nice price. I went ahead and purchased it to either use in my primary system with the above power supply or in my secondary system.

No, its not nearly as pretty as the modular Maddog offering but frankly that doesnt matter one heckuva lot to me. I have found a couple threads in various tech forums where people cited a problem with the FPS 530w. What I have not found is whether the problems mentioned are specific to the 530w FPS offering or the standard 1 in a zillion with problems that normally happens.

I trust FPS much more than Maddog but even great companies occasionally put out dogs. Has anyone here had experience or heard about this FPS unit? I would like to use the Maddog in my secondary system and the FPS in my primary but considering I have had no problems as of yet.....I would prefer to avoid introducing some ;)

Thanks again for your input from an acknowledged 'newb' when it comes to power supplies.

My system is as follows:

MB: Asrock Dual939 Sata2
CPU: Athlon64 3200+ Socket 939
Video: BFG 6800 OC 128 meg
Memory: Mushkin 'Special' 2-2-2 BH6 (2x512)
HD: Maxtor 250gig 16meg cache 7200rpm IDE
Sound: Audigy2 ZS PCI
Watercooling: MCP600/AquaXtreme50z pump with 2 12volt Sanyo Denki 'San Ace' fans

Per another thread I think the Superflower 500 I am using is a decent (although not top end by any means) power supply. I *think* the FSP530 should be a more solid PSU for my system in terms of durability over time but frankly I am unsure if this is the correct PSU for my system - it seems focused 'amperage-wise' on the 5 volt rail @ 40amps with the 3.3 volt rail sitting at 28 amps and the 12 volt rail sitting at 18 amps.

These numbers are very close to what the Maddog/Superflower gives but between the two I have more faith in the FSP unit for holding true to its stated numbers under load.

With that said I honestly dont know if I should be looking at a heavy 5volt rail PSU like the BFG/FSP or looking for something else.

Well you did a good job reasoning through it....and have come to the correct conclusion :)
