Seeking future-proofing recommendations for a new PSU

Here's my system now:

AMD Athlon64 3200+ Winchester @ 2 GHz
Gigabyte K8NS Ultra 939 mobo - nForce 3
BFG GeForceFX 5500 OC
1GB (2x512MB) Corsair Platinum series PC3200 RAM
Onboard sound
Integrated NIC
2 LED case fans
Maxtor 160GB 7200RPM hard drive
Western Digital 120GB 7200RPM hard drive
Lite-On 16x DVD-RW drive
Case with supplied 500W PSU (brand labeled is an Allied)

Here's what I eventually plan on stepping up to. Not all at once, but piece by piece, subject to change depending on what's new and available when I have the money:

-Dual-Core AMD, more than likely an X2 istead of the FX-60, unless the FX-60 magically becomes about $300 someday and it still stomps anything out there. Not getting an AM2 or Yonah or whatever comes out through next gen of processors until about 2nd or 3rd core revisions to make sure the bugs are worked out.
-NForce4 board, probably not SLI, but may end up having it in the event I don't want to blow major bucks on a next gen vidcard.
-Either a 7 series GeForce video card, or whatever next gen DX10 cards come out.
-Replacing both hard drives with at least one of 500GB capacity, maybe two.
- Creative X-Fi Platinum
- maybe one more LED fan or a UV cold cathode light for my next case

I'm seeking recommendations on a PSU that would future proof me for at least what I plan on building, and something that I can use down the road when I go to upgrade again. If possible I'd like it to have Active PFC. I know the tech won't save me big bucks but I also don't want a finger being pointed at me for having a PC that requires its own nuclear reactor either. I game semi-frequently, but when I do it's going to be an all day frag-fest when I do, if that makes any difference.

If there's no real solid recommendation viable, I'd like to at least know what to look for in one that I can select myself. I already know the blacklist that's posted, but I guess I would like to know what pros and cons I have to decide that I'd value more in if I have to go and pick my own.

As far as price goes, I'm not afraid to spend top dollar if that's honestly what it will take. But I am not buying a PSU over 650W. The day I build a rig needing that much power is the same day you can buy your own portable nuclear reactor on a 3AM infomercial for 6 easy payments of $49.99.
