Hey everyone,
I'm in the middle of a transaction to buy a Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro 128 256bit (OEM). A picture was posted of the card and after finding the Part Number I googled it to see related info. Here's the thing, I a came across a site that warned about this card with this PN because of it possibly being a defective (only 4 pipelines enabled) but still usable card. They even suggest that this might be a 9800SE. A couple of cross checking reveals that others are also aware of this. Anyway, am I making too much of this. The asking price is $80. I know it's a prettty good price regardless. I'm not even trying to say the seller was aware of this problem. He's been pretty cool about my "noobieness" and has answered any questions I had. I just pm'ed him about the info I found and I am waiting for his reply. I just wanted your input into this...Thanks...I was thinking of sending a link of the sellers thread so you guys can see the picture, but I don't want anyone to look at him suspicously so I won't. I have pasted a link where I read the article and also a link to a site that lists video cards by part number and that's where the card in question is listed as defective. You have to scroll down a little on both sites to see it.

It really depends on how serious you are about gaming. If you know you can get a genuine 9800 Pro for the same price, and you really care about genuine-ness, then find another deal. Personally, I would want an ATI Certified reseller card <--this way you're pretty much guaranteed the reseller didn't funk with the video card to make an extra profit.

why not post this in the video cards forum? I'm sure you'll get a MUCH better response there.
