Seeing horizontal line on my LCD

I have a Westinghouse 22" LCD monitor that I got from BB, and it's fairly new. I am seeing a horizontal line that moves from the bottom to the top. It's pretty hard to spot it but it's there. Is this normal?

I have the exact same monitor and that isn't normal. Try another DVI cable and see if that's the problem.

I am using a VGA cable and I ordered a DVI cable from monoprice on Sunday so it should be here this week. But is it possible that it's a cable problem?

Hopefully that's all it is. I wouldn't worry too much about it until your new DVI cable gets here.

I'm going to bet the DVI cable fixes the problem. I've seen this kind of thing with CRTs and usually it's something interfering with the signal. They'll be something like a fan, or power cable, or transmitter or whatever that's leaking in to the VGA cable and getting on screen. DVI is all digital so you shouldn't have to worry.

That's not the only thing that can cause the problem, but I'd say it's by far the most likely in your case.

What you are seeing is commonly referred to as a "hum bar" and is the result of a poorly insulated VGA cable or poorly filtered analogue output on your video card (or both). It can happen to any monitor using an analogue connection but on an LCD it can be particularly annoying because of the increased fidelity inherent to LCD displays.

The DVI cable should resolve this issue. :)

Poor picture I know but you can tell theres a large line from top to bottom about half way through the monitor that is a blue line.

Is this somethign to do with a poor DVI connection as well? I'm trying to fix it and I'm not quite sure it's directly a monitor problem.
No, my issue involves a line that goes from the bottom to the top.

Thanks for informing me guys. :) I am glad I ordered that DVI cable now.

That's a V line. You won't fix that short of replacing the screen.

Alright, back to Circuit City we go. What's the proper name for it when I'm telling them why I'm returning the montior? I have a V line that won't go away?

Yes, tell them that it developed a V line - short for verticle line. I have a friend who gets returns for a major LCD manufacturer and that's what they call it.

Yeah VERTICAL lines are most commonly caused by a problem in the connection between the LCD panel itself and the electronics driving it. RMA / return / exchange it...
