Just speculating. My point is that if nVidia could sell a $400 GTX 290 (I can GUARANTEE that any GT 200b part will be no higher than that at launch) with a 25% boost over the GTX 280 which is in the realm of possibility against A $500 4870x2, it actually would be a nice part. Sitting between a $300 4870 and a $500 4870x2 would be a nice price point for. It would very close to a 4870x2 for less much like a 4870 is very close for a GTX 280.

Whatever you might think, for the near future you know that nVidia is going to be extremely price conscious.

I know it's a little far fetched, but a 4850x2 for $350 would fill that gap nicely.

I don't blame nvidia for their high price tag anymore than the fools who pay for it. I think NVidia needs to be more conscious about the price/performance aspect. They have a high end single card in the 280 but need that card which will give the average user the most for their money.
 
I do hope a GT200b card is available before the end of september so I can step up from my GTX 260 :)

 
I will be highly surprised if the GT200b is available for sale before October.
