It would seem that the new iPhone update actually seeks out any modifications made to the firmware by the end user and then wipes them out. The good news for hackers is that the security update does not break any of the tools that have come out made so far.

The iPhone v1.0.1 update primarily addresses a security flaw uncovered in the handset's Safari browser that was to be detailed Thursday at the Black Hat 2007 conference in Las Vegas. That vulnerability, uncovered by researchers at Independent Security Evaluators (ISE), allows an attacker to access data and applications on the phone from a Wi-Fi access point or a malicious Web site.

Well look at the bright side, if you screwed up your phone, apple just did a free refresh :)

Imagine if Microsoft followed this update strategy: everytime you ran Microsoft Update, it would reinstall Windows

Hey, it does prevent viruses from taking hold.

Do you not actually purchase the phone? If so then how can they do what they please to your phone? At what point does it become yours to do as you please?

Just wanted to add that they would probably sell twice as many phones if they didnt lock out everything you would want to do with it and just offered it all.
