• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
    Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

secure or not?

how safe is a AP if it has 64 bit WEP is enabled (with super sekret code).
I have the router enabled with SSID broadcasting (had a problem with the laptop seeing the AP name), and I saw an unknown MAC address connect today, it didn't get assigned an IP from the DHCP so I was wondering what that unknown wireless PC could do....

the network is just a PC Cat-5 wired to D-LINK DI-624 router and a laptop with a wireless card. Both PC's have harddrives shared and a printer is attached to the PC.

It's moderatly safe. If you want to be more paranoid, only allow your MAC address to connect.

The unknown wireless PC could sit on your network long enough to crack your WEP, but if you only have a small amount of traffic flowing though, the chances are that it would need a couple of days - weeks to crack your key.

If you are super-paranoid, do the following:

Code:
Internet
     ||
Router
    ||
Switch---------------
||                  ||
Router             WAP
||
Internal Network

Assuming the routers have built-in firewalls. Then setup a VPN so that your laptop on the WAP can connect to your internal network. Then it's quite hard to connect to your internal network.

Also, don't forget to change the default username/password on the WAP. You'd be surprised how many people don't do that.

It's all in the relfexes :cool:

I was doing MAC addressing for a while, and had SSID off but the wireless laptop would loose the router and couldn't connect till the router got a reset....hmm
