We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

Secure FTP Solution (?)

[H]ey everybody,

I'm looking for a relatively low maintenance, end-user-friendly (admin-friendly is always a plus) approach to secure FTP.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

I'm not adverse to anything at this point from hosted systems to self-built servers.

Thought I'd ask here as I do my own research into what's available.

Thanks as always,

Are you referring to securing an ftp server or do you want a secure ftp client?

There are a couple of methods of secure ftp transfers, are you talking about SFTP, FTPS, or SCP? Or does it not matter?

What do you actually want to do? Is it literally secure FTP, or are you looking for a way to let your internal users just send stuff securely and quickly to external users, and vice versa?

I'm looking for my user base to have a means of making available or sending large files to external recipients.

So far, I've stumbled across Accelion's product, but I'm always somewhat skeptical of a service or an application that requires Outlook plugins as a basis for its integration.

I feel like an idiot for not really having a grasp of what the industry is doing in terms of large file delivery, but apparently, as you guys mentioned, there are a lot of different routes out there. Any notable resources breaking them all down?

I'm in the middle of exactly the same project at the moment.

I looked at Accellion, nice product, the price starts to add up though IMO. Unless I'm sorely mistaken you don't need the Outlook plugin, it's just an option, hell I don't even know what it does as I'm adamant I don't want client software installed on all our computers - you can send/receive just fine via the web interface.

I'm currently looking at Repliweb's RMFT and CFI Attachment Security which do similar things.

You'll find most of them have a "light" web interface for the odd file or two, and if you need to shift hundreds of megs or gigs about they will have some sort of activex or java interface that lets you do smart stuff like pause/resume/validate transfers.

The key thing is that they work over regular https and once you've defined your internal users they can define your external users and not have to bother you each time they want to send to someone.

If you do find any resources let me know, because tbh it seems a mess right now with little in the way of standards or clues where the industry is headed.
