Do you ever wonder if perhaps we're not really computing DNA samples like they say, but are really running something like Echelon for the government?

and I have just the proper amount of bourbon in my system to wonder if it is true.
 
Do you know of anybody who has actually verified the processing that occurs? I mean seriously, what a perfect cover for cheap computing power.

but echelon would need to be real time not the several hours it takes for a typical GPU to complete a WU?
 
and if it was true we could all officially call our selves patriots of the US.. :p

but yeah i seriously doubt it.. especially with the kind of money the US already wastes on computer systems for various departments of the military.. plus im sure IBM would be pretty pissed about it since thats their biggest profit..

Yes I do, all the time. It stopped me folding at one point but I was pursuaded back by my old team :rolleyes:

Everybody should know that tin-foil is NOT a proper metal to suppress radiation and Electro-magnetic waves. Lead is the proper metal. Now that I had my neck removed (because I couldn't hold my head upright for more than 10 minutes), I don't worry about those pesky radio waves anymore.

And my case is housed in a Faraday cage - just in case....

And don't drink the water - thats where the gov puts the drugs for controling us...

We are NOT trying to find a cure alone, we are helping the medical community find a cure. Not being part of the medical community, having computers for a hobby, intent on helping humanity, proud to be on the [H]orde team, "chuckling" at the good natured "smack talk" and enjoying the "hardy" competition from some pretty tough teams, I intend to go to my grave DC'ing my a$$ off. (hey, maybe Osama baby folds in his cave in Afganistan :rolleyes:) :p

Oh yeah, I know " tin-foil is NOT a proper metal to suppress radiation and Electro-magnetic waves", but it's the thought that counts and lead is too heavy. ;)

How is that relevant? Of course we are the providers of the computing power - that doesn't say anything about how the power is being used by the people we are assuming are well intentioned scientists.
Don't get me wrong, I'm folding right now. I just think it's worth thinking about, and I certainly don't think it's inconceivable.
 
Interesting thought. But I agree that the "other" organizations (CIA and the like) have their own computers and don't need to borrow ours for their stuff

 
Actually, I heard from a guy that knows a dude that once went to a place that had a computer and he met a waitress who told him that she overheard two guys in white coats talking in the alley when she was taking out the trash on a Thursday that they heard from a friend of a friend that Stanford is actually trying to calculate how many ways you can actually skin a cat going off the old saying of "there's more than one way to skin a cat".

So who really knows for sure..............

Fold or be folded (or skinned as it may be).

My gf tells me that folding is just a way for the government to track everything that I do. She says so jokingly, but she is the super paranoid type, so I think part of her is serious.

 
lol tell her the government is also recording all the shows she watches on tv.. then see how paranoid she is.. then if she takes that seriously.. you could also say that everytime you turn the microwave on.. that the governments actually using it to read her mind.. and that the only way to protect her self is to wear a tin foil hat.. :p

if shes really paranoid.. that should work.. it worked on my aunt..
 
Actually, Stanford is studying to see if there are more efficient ways to fold clothes since they are run by geeks who are lazy to fold clothes. I guess they are looking at cutting 90% of the folding time so they can have more time to do WoW raids. The project name can be misleading ;)
