Second network on same Server 2012

Hi, I would like to connect my Server 2012 machine to a new, second network which will only be used for local file sharing with no internet access passing through this second network. My main network is 192.168.1.x/255.255.255.0. The second network will run on a second NIC on the machine with IP 192.168.2.1/255.255.255.0.

This second network is really just one other Windows Server 2012 machine which also has two NIC's; setup the same as above, but with .1.2 and .2.2 and same masks.

The .1.x network works fine, and I can ping between the two machines in the .2.x network. However, file sharing does not work. I think it is because Windows detects this network as Public and Unidentified.

Can someone help me with a solution to this?

The reason why I am doing this is because the NIC's in the .2.x network are infiniband cards that I would like to utilize for a high speed connection between the two machines for backup purposes.

set the specific connection between the .1.x network and the .2.x network to private. with it set as public, network discover and sharing are disabled by default.
 
In Server 2012, how do I set it to home or work. The server is not part of a domain.
 
In the Network Control Panel, you should be able to click on the word 'public' and change it. In my experience, this is seldom the case, and almost never the case with no gateway on the interface. For 2008R2 you could oftne times disable and re-enable the NIC and it would switch, but I haven't seen it in 2012. I generally just set up Domains. Changing firewall settings may help (disabling the firewall will obviously work but may not be smart).

Open up the right-side popout window. Click Settings then click on Network. Right-click on the connection and click turn sharing on or off.
