Second HD not recognized?

Basically I just setup my new system and i originally had just one HD and the cdrw hooked up for testing. The HD was a sata and therefor my bios recognized it as the Third IDE Master (it recognizes the 2 sata slots as thrid and fourth ide masters). I had bought a converter for the second HD since its an ATA but when i tried putting it on and using the second SATA slot it wasn't recognized. So I then put it back to IDE so I had one of each and the IDE list recognized it fine. My cdrw, however, was having a weird issue where if i had it set on master it opens and closes every time i start the computer, so i switched it to slave but for some reason it went from primary master to secondary slave. So where i had the current HD it was actually "ontop" of the cdrw. Long story short i switches the plugs around and now I have the cdrw in the secondary master (still opens and closes) and the HD in the primary master. All items are recognized on the IDE list in the bios however I can't get them all to show on the boot order list. Depending on what I do it shows either the cdrw or it shows the second HD. Sorry for the long description, its really hard to explain...Ideas?

have you tried going into disk management to see if that can see the drives?

start -> programs -> administrative tools -> computer management

I can't even get to windows because the HD that isn't on the boot order list is the one that its installed on

/* EDIT */

Ok heres the basic issue. Eveerything works fine until i try and get the second harddrive working. When I use the ATA => SATA converter the drive isn't recognized on the IDE list. When i take out the converter and use IDE it is recognized fine but the first (main) drive is removed from the boot order list. If i unplug the second drive the first drive comes back in its place on the boot order list. So i can't seam to have both drives on the list at the same time.

it varies quite a bit from BIOS to BIOS but your looking for some sort of a Bus Manager option in the BIOS
see Torquemada XP's post above
youll likely need to either get lucky by just looking around for what it might be called
or actually read through all the BIOS options in the manual :p
