Second Harddrive - Boot Issues

I recently purchased a laptop that had a spare harddrive bay.

I installed a new SSD and installed Windows7 on it, and it works like a champ.

However, although the BIOS is set to boot from the SSD, it will occasionally try to boot from the old harddrive, and I have to go into the BIOS to fix this.

I may just swap the SSD into 0 and harddrive into bay 1 to see if it helps, but I noticed DISK0 (the old harddrive) has a system reserved 100mb on it. I assume this is from the old Windows install and might be causing issues.

Could that be the issue, and how do you kill it? In the attempt in disk management I get the error
"Windows cannot delete the system volume on this disk"

Was the other hard drive your previous boot drive with an active partition? I'm guessing so. It it were me I would put the SSD in "0" delete and create the partition on the old hdd and make it simple volume in "1".

Argh!

Well, I moved the two drives around, the SSD in 0 and the HDD in 1, and even when trying to reinstall windows, it still shows that the HDD has a 100mb system partition that cannot be removed.

Getting to the harddrives in this laptop is very tedious (you almost have to disassemble the whole thing), so I'm just reinstalling Windows on the SSD and will see how it goes but am not hopeful.

Ideas? Do I need to remove the HDD from the computer and connect it on USB or something to kill those partitions?
 
Thanks man, unfortunately none of those options worked though.

However, I just ended up removing the HDD, installed W7 on just the SSD, and now it finally put the little reserved partition on the SSD instead of the HDD. Then I installed a completely different second 500gb HDD I had laying around. :)

HOWEVER, my original issue remains! :mad::mad::mad::mad: Almost comical!

So when powering off the Asus G43SW, and then powering it back on, it briefly shows the ASUS bios screen, and then just goes to a blank black screen. You can reboot ten time and get the same result.

BUT, if you press F2 when the BIOS loads, then simply "exit saving changes" (not having saved anything at all), it boots up just great. :confused:

Before I assumed it was because of the second HDD, but it does this even with ONLY the SSD installed in the machine.
