Second hard drive

I want to get another disk, primarily for backup. I don't know if I should get an internal or external drive or if it matters much. Originally I thought I would get a raid 0 system and back that up onto a third drive. But then I learned that for games, I might as well just get a Raptor and then it would be easier to back up. So if I have a Raptor (74Gb) and I want the best way to back that up, is it going to be an internal drive that could totally backup up the Raptor and then have some extra gigs for storage? Or is it going to be an external drive; is that safer?

Personally I have seen more external drives die than internal ones. If I were you I would get an internal unless you needed to transport gigs of data to other machines...

Is it as safe for the internal one? Like for OS (which won't be on that disk) failure, or viruses?

In terms of protecting data, an external drive is a better backup solution than another internal drive, as an internal drive could get hit by a virus, corruption, or a disaster (power supply failure, fire, etc). With an external drive, you can store it in a different location to protect against such disasters. I would have really important and irreplaceable data (photos, records, documents, etc) backed up to DVD as well.
