I don't know much (anything) about mounting fans, but recently Ive decided 1 fan isn't enough, no matter how big it is. So I went out and got a second 120mm fan for the front, the trouble now is how do i mount it.

I'm pretty sure it goes behind the hard drives, as the holes line up but do i use screws? those little rubber things? Anyway, sorry for the stupidity, this stuff isn't covered in the antec case manual.

(pics would be cool)

it goes on the opposite of the hard drives..

use the rubber things

what are the rubber things. all of my fans come with screws.

the 120 wouldnt fit behind the hard drive unless you modded it or its a big case. usually it is 2 80mm or 1 80mm.

garage81 do u like that cpu cooler? i dont like the look of it.

That case takes a 2nd 120mm fan in the front. It mounts between the hard drives and the front of the case.

I just asked my friend who has the case, and he said they should mount on 4 rubber grommets.

I dont see how there is room between the front of the case and the hard drives, i just assumed it was mounted like Garage's set up (and btw i like that cpu cooler)

yes there is always enough room. the screw holes on the hard drive allows u to set the hard drive back so u can fit one there.
and the reason its like that on his setup because the hard drives are turned

thats my antec sonata,

and thats where the 2nd fan goes..

oh, and the zalman alcu is quiet, and im OCd 840mhz right now, so yeah, i like it ;)

Don't expect the front fan on a Sonata to lower your case temp. You may find they increase. Unless you build a duct around the HDD cage and fan, all the front fan does is draw air already in the case across the hard drives. As the HDDs cool, they raise the overall case temp.

when the fan is in "front" of the case u want it to blow in and the fans in the back to blow out. the fans in the back should blow out because if they blow in its just going to suck the hot air from the power supply. so it will cool the case about 1 or 2 degrees

The front fan in a Sonata is at the rear of the hard drive cage. Unless you make a duct around the cage and fan, all it does is draw air already in the case across the hard drives. Cools the drives, but adds to the overall case temp.

Is there not room to mount a fan outside the case behind the front case cover? If so couldn't you cut out a hole for airflow?

You could modify the case for an intake fan, but there is no obvious easy place for one. I thought ADINSX was asking about the stock front fan location.
