second core not passing prime95

prime95 seems to be perfectly stable on the first core, but the second seems to fail even after ive increased the voltage quite a bit. is there a bios setting i can use to fix this? maybe something else needs some more voltage? ive only touched vcore and fsb.

i was trying for 3.6GHz. 3.5 is super good at 1.5vcore, 1.488 actual. i havent tried lowering yet. i guess im satisfied with 3.5, i was just really hoping for 3.6 though. :(

anyone? the first core is super stable at good clocks and voltages, but the second just wont pass prime95 for anything...
 
Try playing with the clock skews.

Try increasing your NB voltage. Standard is 1.1v, btw (from the P45 datasheet).

Try setting CPU Margin enhancement to "compatible". Don't use FSB400 strap.

PS, that's not a bad overclock - you might just have a bum second core that isn't up to your demands on it. How are your temps?
 
after running blend for almost 2 minutes (thats when it errored) at 3.5GHz on 1.432 actual vcore, the first (good) core maxed at 50C and the second (bad) core maxed at 48C. idle temps are around 30C. the first core will keep running for 2 hours+ without a problem, but depending on the vcore that second core will die at 2 mins to 20 mins into the blend test. do i need to set a higher vcore annd make it stable or is it ok? it doesnt bsod at all, it just fails the test after a short time.

if it fails, its not stable. How many hours is it stable at 3.5? Id ptolly back off and maintain the 3.5 oc which is pretty good, my q6600 g0 wont go any higher than 3.2 with out significantly higher voltages than im comfortable with.
 
it seems pretty stable at 3.5 and 1.5V, but its only been 7 mins. ill let it run for about 30 before i try lowering the vcore a step. should i be satisfied with 3.5 or should i boost a tiny bit over 1.5V and go for 3.6? im running a low-quality water loop, temps are 56C right now with 1.5V.

really? whats significantly higher for you? i usually just put mine at 1.5V, take it up by .1GHz until its unstable, and then lower it by .1 and use that. i had 3.6 with my q6600 but i just sold it so i really wanted 3.6 with this cpu.

I cannot say exactly on voltages as my power supply died about 2 weeks ago and i just dont have the spare cash for a new one right now. I think that may of been some of the source of my issues. I could hit 3.4 prime95 stable, but would still get random BSODs. But 3.6 just wouldnt post, and there is only so many times im willing to pry a cmos battery out though.

and you shouldnt have to take the battery out just unplug the psu and reset with the jumper. i guess its just your board, as i had a pretty poor q6600 as well. 1.325VID, which as far as i can tell is the worst clocker. this is a decent psu for you. anyone can afford $30 right? :)

good deal, im holding out for an hx850 right now though, ive got my rock solid linux box up right now and could use the break from gaming to study for the exams and such. less distractions = better grades apparantly, who woulda thought

Yea you prob don't want that vcore to go all the way to 1.5v with the 65nm chips but I had a q6600 that wouldn't go above 3.0 or so and it was G0 stepping so there are unlucky chips out there
