I am brainstorming ideas for my highschool thesis this semester. It can be on any topic except abortion and gun control because they've been over used and the topic must be controversial.

Looking for topics.

Thought of a couple:
- digital vs analog
- open source liscensing (example - Linux) vs private (example - Microsoft) ***
- US Homeland Security (ie: patriot act) vs Freedom ***

Digital vs. analog would be a tough one to argue, because of their almost mutual relationship and application-specific nature. Open source vs. proprietary would lead to some interesting discussion, as long as you gave the discussion some direction (Open source/proprietary software will be more successful because...). How about:

How standardized should the personal computer and its components be? Which layouts, designs, interfaces, etc. should be standardized?
SCSI vs. ATA, with discussion on the interface and marketing levels, as well as discussion of future interfaces (Serial ATA 2.0, Serial Attached SCSI, iSCSI, etc.)
Should computers be more user friendly, or should computer users be more responsible for the operation of their computers?
Will the traditional desktop computer survive for another decade? Will the notebook computer? Will the PDA?
Should the Internet become controlled and regulated by the government or world governing bodies? Should it be provided by these governing bodies?
Should voting be done solely by computers?

I could go on and on.

digital vs. analog isn't really a controversial topic.

Music piracy would be a good topic. So would open vs. closed source.

post back when you decide what you're gonna do ^_^

p.s. i'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked, but i guess it's [H]ardware related, so kudos to you! and good luck on your paper.
