Well I'm looking for a simple, cheap point and shoot... Budget is ~$100 (so no I cannot afford anything like the Canon S95....)

What would people recommend now days?

I'll recommend the same camera I recommended to Kyle in his thread, the Canon PS SD1300 IS. Ok, it is $150 which goes beyond your budget just a little bit, but I think you'll be happy with the purchase.

As for the Olympus, I don't like the quality of their P&S cameras. The advertised retail price on that camera is a joke, too. No, it's not $360... more like $120, lol, so with shipping you're only saving about $20 on a camera that is questionable at best.

I'm actually going to have to lower my budget and the deal for the Olympus is dead...

I'm sure someone must know what's better than the rest of the cheaper cameras even if they aren't the greatest quality...

This is a difficult one because often the most talked about and professionally reviewed cameras go for more than $100.

My aunts and uncles like to buy cameras in this range, and I've seen the best things in the past with compact cameras from Canon or Kodak.

Here are 2 models from Canon this year that are near $100:

$90 Canon PowerShot A800 - Sharp looking pictures, less options than below, and 640x480 video.

$125 Canon Powershot A2200 - More picture modes and filters and 720p video. Maybe check flickr for image samples. Edit: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=canon a2200 Looks nice and versatile. The picture of the kid was taken with a DSLR, but most all the others were taken with this Canon.

I concur with this recommendation, but I realize it's still above your budget :(. I went into my favorite camera store this weekend and just picked one up. My budget was between $150 and $200, and I ended up with a $125 camera because the added features in more expensive models were not worth the increase in price for the range I was looking for. I think it means something when somebody recommends something lower than your budget... it must be something good or it wouldn't be mentioned.

Unfortunately this was the lowest price camera he recommended (probably because of the price range I gave him... not saying there's nothing good for less $) so I can't offer any suggestions for anything cheaper. Good luck.
