Hi,
I went to my local pc shop only to discover they only have sata 3 hd's in stock.
i currently have 9650SE24ML raid card, was wondering if the drives would be compatible?

What about other raid cards Adaptec/accrea/Highpoint would these be able to use sata 3 drives?

All SATA 6 Gb/s drives are backward compatible with 3 Gb/s controllers, even the cables are the same, that's why manufacturers are switching, no need to keep 2 years old designs around for no benefit.

I understand this, but my concern is will they work in a raid environment, are the new sata 3 drives compaitble with raid cards.

SATA2 controllers have to work with SATA3 drives and vice versa by standard, they will just negotiate SATA2 signaling. On the other hand you may be SOL if the drive is not on HCL of your controller. It may still work, but don't count on any support from the manufacturer.
 
So it looks like buy a few and see how they perform on your raid card.. luck of the draw i guess...
i might buy 1 or 3 to see how i go..
